Resumo/Summary:

This projects joins teams in University of Minho and Porto to engage in a theoretical and experimental study of non linear optical response coefficents of layered materials, like the transition metal dichalcogenides, Graphene bi-layers and multi-layers, and Van der Waals heterestructures in general. Research show that some of these materials present two of the most desirable properties of non-linear materiais: strong response over wide band of frequencies. The project will focus on

developing theoretical and computational tools for a systematic study of several materials. It also has an experimental component, taking advantage of ultra-short laser facilities, that will provide data on time resolved relaxation mechanisms.
